SPORTSDESK – This article could be summed up in two words; Seth Anderson. Anderson, the Marshfield Tiger senior standout, again scored 20 plus points in a game and led his Tigers over the Merrill Blue Jays. The Tigers also found something they’ve searched for all year, balanced scoring. Marshfield had three total in double digit scoring on their way to a 64-59 sectional semi-final win over Merrill.
The Tigers had faced Merrill twice during the regular season, winning both Wisconsin Valley Conference games. Anderson scored a combined 66 during those games and now has hung 86 on Merrill in 2018. Blue Jay top scorers, Quinn Steckbauer and Zach Mootz, got theirs with a combined 35. Yet the Blue Jays were unable to find another contributor to significantly close the gap against the Tigers.
Marshfield led by as many as 10 during the second half and up by three with 1.9 seconds left and then Anderson stepped to the free throw line and confidently sank two free throws to put the game out of reach.
During the game, Anderson became the Tigers all-time season scoring leader with 556 points on the season. This broke a record held by Bill Rhyner from back in the 1967-68 season.
Next up for Marshfield is a game vs La Crosse Central. Central is the #4 ranked team in the state and will be perhaps the Tigers toughest test all season long. The Red Raiders bring with them a 23 point per game sophomore basketball phenom, Johnny Davis.
Davis is already being courted by Wisconsin, UNLV and a host of others to play Division 1 college basketball. He will no doubt bring with him multiple college scouts and a throng of Red Raider faithful.
