SPORTSDESK – The Marshfield Tigers traveled to Schofield Thursday night for Wisconsin Valley Conference softball double header against the DC Everest Evergreens. On a cold and blustery late afternoon with winds blowing in from left field, runs would be at a premium for both teams.
In the first game, senior and starting pitcher, Megan Donahue, stepped to the plate with two outs and runners on second and third. She then proceeded to crush a 2-2 pitch into the wind in left field for a three-run home run, giving the Tigers a 3-0 head start.
Donahue completely worked over the Evergreen batters with 11 strikeouts while only allowing four hits and one earned run. On the way to a Tigers 5-1 game one win, Jordan Pretsch and Jenna Jakobi each added 7th inning RBI’s.
Game two was much like the first as Marshfield sent Kate Konrardy to the circle to give Donahue a breather. Konrarydy struck out two Evergreens in the first inning and the Tiger bats pushed three across in the bottom of the frame. With the Tigers again out to an early 3-0 lead, thanks in part to a first inning two RBI hit by Rhiannon Corozolla, the Evergreen bats went quiet.
Konrardy finished the game with five strikeouts before giving way to Donahue in the 6th inning. Everest scored once in the 6th and then Donahue recorded all three Tiger outs from the circle in the 7th to complete the sweep.
The wins secure second place in the WVC for the Tigers, behind undefeated SPASH. Next WVC game for Marshfield is Tuesday, May 15 at home vs Wausau East. Game at Marshfield Fairgrounds Park with first pitch scheduled for 4:30.
