SPORTSDESK – Earlier this month, Marshfield Tigers basketball coach, Heidi Michaelis, turned in her resignation after 17 years and 305 wins. Since that time, Marshfield Athletic Director, Nathan Delany, has been reviewing resumes and other considerations to fill the head spot for the girls basketball team. According to the MHS Tiger Athletics Facebook page, that spot has been filled by Marshfield Tiger Alumni, Taylor Varsho. We spoke with Varsho earlier this evening and she confirmed, “In the last couple weeks I have decided to continue my teaching career at Marshfield. Then after speaking with Heidi I decided to apply for the vacancy”, said Varsho. “I just accepted the job last Friday, it moved fast and that’s ok”.
Varsho, a 2012 Marshfield graduate and all-time Tiger’s girls basketball scorer (1,370 points), also played Division 1 college basketball at Colorado State. She will now bring those experiences to an already highly respected basketball program. “I’m not afraid to jump right in and play against my girls in practice”, said Varsho. “We are going to compete every week and you’re not guaranteed a starting spot until you prove to me that you deserve it”.
Taylor comes from a family of outstanding athletes. Dad, Gary, played major league baseball for a number of teams including the Chicago Cubs and coached the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brother, Daulton, a 2017 draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, currently plays for minor league affiliate, Visalia Rawhide in Visalia, CA.
A request for comment made to Delany has not been responded to as of this time.
