SPORTSDESK – The SPASH Panthers split a doubleheader vs DePere on Saturday in boys baseball action at Bukolt Park in Stevens Point.

In the first game, the Panthers’ Logan Shulfer and Dylan Davis gave up a combined three earned runs before Reece Gaber came on in the 6th and shut down the DePere bats. Gaber held DePere scoreless over the final two innings and only gave up one hit while striking out three, allowing the Panthers to hang on to a 12-5 win. Offensively the Panthers were led by JD Schultz who went 2 for 3 with three RBI and Brett Ehr who had a double and 2 RBI.

In the second game of the afternoon it was the Panthers struggling to get runs across the plate and falling 4-3 in extra innings. JD Schultz gave up three runs over six innings of work while striking out seven. The Panther bats were unable to prop up his solid performance, only scoring two runs in the regularly scheduled first seven innings. Ehr, Kelly and Barrett Brooks had two hits apiece in the losing effort.

Head Coach Kraig Terpstra, “We pitched well all day. Defensively and at the plate we looked like it was early in the season at times.”

SPASH is now 1-1  and 0-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. The Panthers next take the field Tuesday, April 9th vs Marshfield.
